Riding a motorcycle is an exhilarating activity, whether it's for leisure or work. Although unique motorcycle varieties are now available in the market as riders increase, the most basic parts are still present among all models.

Whether you are a beginner or have been riding for a while, knowing the basic motorcycle parts is essential for any rider. This will allow you to take appropriate actions and make sound decisions for your vehicle.

This article will teach new riders about the essential and most common motorcycle parts.
  1. Throttle
The throttle or the accelerator is the handlebar grip on the motorcycle. You have to twist or rotate the grip to control the engine. This will allow you to go faster or slower, depending on the direction you twist the throttle.

  2. Clutch Lever
The clutch lever disengages and engages engine power to the back wheel. It is located in front of the left handlebar.

  3. Rear Brake Pedal
Instead of using the front brake lever, riders can use the rear brake pedal. The front wheel receives more braking power the harder the pedal is pressed.

  4. Front Brake Lever
Meanwhile, you can find the front brake lever on the right side of the handlebar. Similarly, the more you grip or pull the front brake lever, the more power the front wheel receives.

  5. Headlights
Headlights are placed on the front of the motorcycle to give the rider visibility at night or on dark roads. This will also alarm people and other drivers that you are there.

  6. Side Mirrors
Most vehicles have side mirrors which are important for safe and smooth riding. Riders will be informed of the traffic from behind and make safe driving decisions.

  7. Ignition Key Switch
The ignition key switch or starter switch is where the rider turns the key to power the motorcycle. It is usually found in the front near the handlebar or side of the vehicle.

  8. Engine
The engine is what keeps the motorcycle running. It controls the transmission and other processes that relate to its smooth operation.

  9. Dashboard
The dashboard includes the speedometer, odometer, and tachometer. Depending on the model, the placement of the dashboard may vary, but usually, it is found near the handlebars where the riders can easily see.

  10. Speedometer
The speedometer displays the speed of the running vehicle in miles/kilometers.

  11. Gas Tank
The gas or fuel tank holds the fuel. This can also provide a safe area for your knees to hold while driving. Usually, the gas tank is found near the handlebars and the seat.

  12. Kickstand
The kickstand on a motorcycle allows it to be held upright without leaning over for support. Most motorcycle models have a side stand which you can find on the left side near the footrests.

  13. Footrests
Footrests, also known as pegs, are used to rest and protect your and your passenger's feet. This will allow the rider and the passenger to center their weight on the wheel and not let them hang while riding.

  14. Tires
Tires support the weight of the vehicle and the rider. They play a major role in keeping your ride safe and smooth since they are the ones that absorb the shocks from the rough roads.

  15. Exhaust Pipe
The exhaust pipe provides for the engine's smooth running by expelling engine fumes away from the rider. You can find most exhaust pipes at the lower part of the vehicle, and these can be modified usually to give the motorcycle a louder sound or to change form or location.

  16. Seat
The motorcycle seat varies in size, shape, and place depending on the model. Most motorcycles have wider or longer seats to accommodate the passenger, but there are also single or solo seats just enough for the rider.

  17. Battery
The battery provides power to the engine and other components in the motorcycle. Typically, it is placed under the rider's seat.

Bottom Line
With continuous development and creative designs, motorcycles have become more and more flexible and unique depending on the rider's preference. The mentioned parts above are essential and can be found in almost all motorcycle models. Understand the following and stay safe on the ride.
