Motorcycles are an excellent alternative to cars. However, it’s not as safe as driving a 4-wheel vehicle. Because of this, it’s a smart idea to purchase motorcycle insurance. If you own a motorcycle and plan to buy insurance, here are some tips to save on your policy. Join Motorcycle Clubs
Motorcycle clubs are a great way to get discounts. Typically, members of these clubs get discounted rates for their insurance policies. It’s also an excellent way to ask around for insurers and rates to get the best policy for you. Look for an Infrequent Rider Discount If you don’t use your motorcycle every day, consider asking about part-time or occasional driver discounts. This is beneficial for those who don’t ride their bikes frequently. Additionally, insurers also offer discounts to drivers who don’t use their motorcycles in the winter. However, if you got your motorcycle on loan, your lender will require you to get full coverage all year round. Consider Not Getting Full Coverage Say your motorcycle is already fully-paid, and there’s no lender to worry about. With this, you might want to consider getting only the coverage you need. Of course, liability insurance is mandatory as it covers the damage you cause other people. On the other hand, if your bike is old, consider not getting comprehensive and collision coverage. Shop for the Right Motorcycle Just like auto insurance, motorcycle insurance insurers also consider the type of motorcycle you own. Of course, some motorcycles will cause your rates to go up. For example, sport motorcycles usually mean higher premiums than classic road bikes. Check on your insurer first before replacing your bike or buying a new one. This will help you compare your current bike’s premium rates and the rates of the one you’re planning to buy. Increase Your Deductibles Just like other insurance policies, the more you’re willing to pay for claims, the lower premium rates you’ll get. If you can afford to increase your deductibles from $250 to $1000, you’ll likely save about 20% on your premiums. Ask your insurer about your current deductibles, and then ask how much discount you can get once you increase it. Conclusion Because driving a motorcycle is risky, it’s best to ensure that you’re protected. Getting motorcycle insurance will do the job. Follow these tips to help you save money on your policy. It was helpful when you said to not get full coverage. My brother recently got a motorcycle a couple of weeks ago, and he was telling me last night about how he wanted to know some tips on how to get insurance for it. I'll make sure to pass this information along to him once he finds insurance to get for his motorcycle.
