If you have a tree or several trees on your property, then you should know what your current homeowner's insurance coverage says about trees. Indeed, trees add beauty and shade to your yard, but there are also hidden dangers to trees, especially when these are old and diseased. Old trees can endanger your property as well as your neighbor's home. Homeowners Insurance Won’t Cover Tree Removal
Removing standing trees because you want to clear your yard is not covered by homeowner's insurance. Almost all policies do not cover trees that are standing despite being a danger to the homeowner and his neighbors. As a property owner, you must be responsible for your home maintenance. It would help if you trimmed, pruned, or cut down any tree that posed a hazard to your home and your neighbor's property. If you are certain that a tree is a hazard and you don't cut it down, and this damages your neighbor's home, then you may be found liable for the damage. You may also have to pay for removing the tree. If the tree falls on your property, your insurance may not cover repair costs and tree removal costs. Homeowner’s Insurance May Cover Blocking Trees Coverage for fallen tree removal may or may not be included. If a storm blows down a tree in your yard and your home has not suffered any damage, then insurance will not cover removal costs. However, there are some exceptions. If the storm blows down a tree and blocks your driveway, then your homeowner's insurance may cover removal costs. If you're physically disabled and a fallen tree blocked your wheelchair access to your home, then your insurance company may cover a portion of the cost. Some Homeowner’s Insurance May Cover Part Of Landscaping Costs Landscaping is expensive, but tree replacement in case of a storm is not covered by home insurance.
